So you call the left self-righteous then you yourself call the right moronic? How is calling people on the other side of the aisle morons not self-righteous?

Ahh, Maher has more or less the same views as all those people - they're basically all center left Democrats - except for being more racist.

Maher and Harris are both smug assholes who are so self-righteous and obnoxious in their beliefs that they (purposely) alienate everyone who doesn't think like they do and make even people that do agree with them squirm.

Otherwise known as the Jon Chait Liberal.

I don't understand why these types of stories keep being labeled Randian or Objectivist when, if they are exposing any ideology at all, it's not Objectivism, it's elitism. Hell, he's Wikipedia:

Those closing arguments are just bizarre as hell.

Well, Snowden is in Russia because his passport was revoked. The U.S. government could've easily just not revoked his passport and let him head onto Bolivia (not an ally of the U.S., but no real threat either). But they didn't and that's why he's in Russia. You don't like him in Russia, blame the Obama Administration

Well, the problem is, for example, that we are five hours in and the show hasn't had time to give us any insight whatsoever into who Penguin is, but it has had time to cram about 40-50 incredibly clunky, terribly written references to the fact that he will become Penguin.

Nope, it's not just you.

I liked this better than last week's episode, but man, I have no idea what the writers are doing with this show's mythology and I'm getting a strong feeling that the writers don't either. They seem to want to make the show a slow-burning origin story about the heroes and villains that will eventually make up the

I've seen this line of reasoning on multiple occasions already and I just don't get it. The problem with the rape is that Jaime is supposed to be one of the heroes of Game of Thrones. He's one of fans' favorite characters and they turned him into a fucking rapist right in the middle of his redemption arc without even

Good piece Sonia. I'm really interested to know what you think of the recent comments going around by the director of the episode, where he says the scene was meant to be consensual.

"what’s weird, however, is that when Blithe’s family asked for the error to be corrected in the episode’s closing titles, HBO did no such thing, though the Blu-Ray release of the series contains a feature that correctly places Blithe’s death in 1967.)

I'm intrigued, but it all depends on the execution.

In regards to gender politics, you could definitely find something icky about the Maggie-Rust sex scene - look it's the devil woman tricking the poor ole guy into sleeping with her as part of her devilish scheme - but what I liked about it is that her rationale is absolutely correct.

I know a lot of people in the comments last week were assuming that the Rust/Marty split was fake and they were working the case together. I'm really glad they didn't go down that route because it didn't make any sense to me at the time - solely because it didn't fit what we knew about Marty's personality.

I don't think there will be any supernatural elements. Why do you think that?

I'm really excited and relieved after this episode. I watched the first four again this weekend and after watching them, I became convinced that they were setting Rust up as the serial killer. As it was revealed more in this episode, it's clear from the very beginning of the series that the two detectives in 2012

I think they will be okay.

"The movie’s Norman Rockwell America seems further and further away with every year—and that’s a good thing in a lot of ways. I’d rather live in the diversity-rich, progressive city I live in now than in a place that casually understood “American culture” to mean “things white people were up to.”
