1) As the article pointed out, boycotts are often directly harmful to workers.

It’s impossible to be a completely ethical consumer under current capitalism and some people lack the money to buy the expensive stuff or the time to learn how to sew and make an entire wardrobe for a growing infant. She’s not saying that slave-labor is justified. Get off your high horse.

It’s worth noting that most of his victims had drug or prostitution charges, which is a very good example of why we need to decriminalize those things so that vulnerable people don’t have to come in contact with the cops.

Yeah, exactly. The bail system basically keeps poor people in jail without a conviction, which is fucked up any way you slice it. The family is probably in shock and holding out hope that he didn’t do it. I think it was shitty that people got so mad at Nicki about it.

Stoya has spoken up about problems in the industry before, and she’s certainly never denied that they exist. Porn isn’t by any means a monolith, not all sets are created equal, and there’s nothing inherently exploitive in paying people to have sex on camera for money.

Of course there are issues in the porn industry — contractor status and stigma against sex workers + standard-issue misogyny and rape culture present in every industry = high potential for abuse. Many of the women who have come forwards about assault have critiqued the industry, in a much more nuanced and informed

The most fascinating thing about this thread is the specific celebrities who show up in sex dreams, many of whom aren’t even attractive. So far I’ve counted 2 or more sex dreams from different people about about: David Tennant (like 4 different ones including mine, he’s popular), Bill Clinton, Peter Dinklage, J-Lo,

My brain is super weird so I’ve had more bizarre sex dreams than normal ones.

Why does everyone have sex dreams about Bill Clinton? There are a bunch here.

This is the second David Tennant dream in this thread, and I’m just about to add a third.

I think this is the third Bill Clinton dream in this thread.

Honestly, that sounds great.

Does she have to?

I’ve read every single first hand account that’s come out, thank you very much. And I don’t at all deny that there are problems in the porn industry. They will persist as long as sexual violence does, and as long as the stigma against sex work makes porn stars easy targets.

I don’t think you’re a SWERF. I think you’re someone who is being terribly insensitive to Deen’s victims.

“leads me to think this is some pretty weak self-justification on Angel’s part”

It’s not anti-sex worker work to criticize the porn industry. It IS anti-sex worker to use the rapes of sex workers to promote political views they vocally oppose, especially when said sex workers have made (and continue to make) their own, much more well-informed critiques of the industry they work in.

Rapists are, generally, pretty good at picking victims and methods that will let them get away with it. James Deen arranged a life in which he had access to sex workers who were also into consensual BDSM, making it highly unlikely that he’ll ever face prosecution.

Okay, that’s better.

I mean, most of the women who have accused him are experienced porn stars, and most of them have taken the time to point out that the treatment they experienced with him was in no way typical. Like obviously there are problems in the porn industry, and those problems are magnified by the stigma against sex workers,
