I went through a phase of buying music on CDs a while ago. Ironically, they were vastly cheaper than the equivalent downloads.

Weirdest Sonic spinoff ever.
Even if I’d owned one of these games for a while and played it to completion, I’d still pick up one of these hard copies if it was something I really enjoyed. We’ve no hard and fast rules for what gets preserved or emulated in this medium, and physical copies are only going to become more and more valuable (to me, at…
I’m really torn on this. When I was going through university, I came across a saying; that, as a Lit student, I shouldn’t be reading a story for what happens. And that sounds a little silly, but I bring it up because it kind of feels like the mentality Solon Scott is adopting. He wants to delve into these games, to…
This is something I feel doesn’t get stressed enough; a dual screen setup is still worthwhile even if it isn’t always used for flashy purposes. A map screen isn’t that exciting, but it is damn useful.
It’s a damn shame you don’t have it. I can see the appeal of the XL models, but the regular New 3DS is only just light enough to hold comfortably; a New 3DS XL would be basically unplayable for. And even then, I prefer using my DS lite for vertical games like Rhythm Paradise or Hotel Dusk.
Saying all these things need to end is, to put it bluntly, fucking stupid. They all have a place in the modern gaming landscape (with the possible exception of motion controls, but then VR isn’t dead yet.) Typing something on console without a touch interface is a nightmare, and that’s just off the top of my head.
A while ago I played a game called Ratchet Gladiator that I thought did maps pretty well. You had a mini-map in one corner of the screen, and by clicking the right stick you could expand it into a full-screen translucent version. You couldn’t play the whole game like that, but it was incredibly easy to bring up and…
I’m prepared to accept that the 3DS has a better library of games but I’d argue that the original DS’ library showed a little more innovation in how its hardware could be used. I mean, we had games like Mario Kart DS which just used the bottom screen as a map screen. But we also had stuff like Hotel Dusk and 100 Books…
Do you mean Rayman 2: The Great Escape? God, that was a weird game in retrospect. I feel that’s why Rayman has never really seen the same level of success as Mario or Sonic; between evil saxophones, robot pirates, homicidal soot balls, insane rabbits and rocking grannies, you can hardly say the series has established…
I used to have a game called Goofy Golf Deluxe on my PC that would play the Mr Skops music whenever I left the Rayman disc in. It made for a surreal experience.
Rayman was one of the very first video games I ever played, and in my view it looks and sounds fantastic even today. I’d do terrible things to play this (or a new Rayman game in general.)
I really like the original art I see on this website.
Yeah, but that was surgery rather than dentistry. You do operate on a dog in one level, however.
Personally I wish the Vita D-Pad had seen wider adoption. That thing is amazing. It’s perfect for playing older titles without analogue support.
Aside from the joysticks and buttons, the Switch’s competitive controller has four, instead of three, buttons in its center: a plus button, a minus button, a home button and a mystery circle button
Minecraft is a challenging game to play in single player (especially in survival mode) because starting from scratch means accomplishing anything meaningful takes a long time. It’s far superior in multiplayer when you’ve got several people collaborating on a shared goal, but probably quite tedious when you’re going it…
I don’t know; while I’m keen for video games to improve as narrative experiences, I’m quite happy for Minecraft to exist as a canvas rather than a novel. Trying to attach some deeper lore to stuff like the Nether and ocean monuments would be pretty cool, but I also wonder how many players would even want something…
This looks like a fire hazard in cutesy outfits.
I will never stop being amazed at how the internet can mobilise itself to fan art stuff like this.
