How was it ill-intended?  It was just a Nine Inch Nails reference.  It has all the racism or sexism of walking by someone wearing a NIN shirt.

This is not unique to rockclimbing. The counterculture that created these sports allowed for creative naming. Some of them are super-cool. Some of them are awful. Check out the cycling world's own reckoning:

I was conceived in Montreal (that’s a funny story for another day), but in all of my travels I have never seen a city more completely populated by perfect assholes, and I say that as someone who grew up in Boston and spent a lot of time in my late adolescence in New York while having family in Philadelphia.

To be fair, Meg also mentioned that she was trying to protect herself and the 2 others in the car. It seems her biggest concern was the fact that if she called the police all they would hear would be “4 n-ggas in a car with a gun”.
