I have no problem with either the plot or the realism. I wish the film had stuck to the plot a bit more. I don't mind sub-plots, but this was a bit overboard. Look at Reservoir Dogs. Not much to that movie except for plot and the stray Madonna anecdote, and it turned out better than PF. I know, sacrilege - down-vote

Clearly you've put more thought into this than I have. Here's how it could have happened and not been annoying:

OK, why not?

It's nothing like that at all. It would be like not hiring black female salespeople because they A) are harder to recruit, or B) don't sell as much as all of the other salespeople.

Liked for Jell-o. Who doesn't like Jell-o?

If that black woman is not as funny as another person that they could have hired then she is absolutely hurting the show. The purpose of the show is to make people laugh. If they get fewer laughs than an alternative, go with the alternative.

Pretending they don't exist is not what I'm advocating. I'm saying that covering every race/gender combination shouldn't be a priority over being funny. Whether or not the show is funny is another debate. In this context, I'm just saying try to be funny instead of politically correct and your show will be better

I look for an excuse to say, "That's a big chicken." Every. Day.

I don't know. I could go for a L.A. Story 25-years-later sequel.

Why does SNL have to comment on every single thing that happens in America? If Michelle Obama does something that SNL thinks might be skit-worthy, but they don't have anyone to play her credibly, do another skit. If they can't, hire better writers.

For me, regarding stand-up, it's about relating to the humor. I get Louis C.K. because we have a similar outlook on life (albeit mine is not quite as depressing or hilarious). I don't get Wanda Sykes because we have absolutely zero things in common besides being human and alive. I do find Wanda hilarious on Curb Your

I really don't understand the down-voting here. If SNL wants to hire all white guys in their 30s, let them. You don't have to watch the show if you think that's a bad thing. But SNL is not the final arbiter of what is funny in this country, so I don't see the big deal about not having a certain race and/or gender

Though in his defense, Idris Elba is suited for every gig in his field.

I watched about 2/3 of SNL Saturday before turning it off. I remember laughing at Thompson once, and at no other cast member (hence the turning it off), but now I can't remember what made me laugh. So I both disagree and agree with you.

That's what works for that show. If you're a comedian who can't do those things, then it's not the show for you. Maybe Belushi and Murray wouldn't be on the show today, but I would argue that that is a good thing. The show and the comedy "landscape" (for lack of a better word) are much different now.

We'll just disagree about it's impact. I don't see it the same way that you do at all. And being a masterpiece and influencing film are two separate things. Avatar has certainly influenced "the whole film landscape" over the last few years, but no one is calling it a masterpiece.

Your original argument was that "it changed the whole film landscape". Now your argument is that it "had a sweeping effect on the field of independent cinema."

I deny that PF is a masterpiece. See how easy that was?

And Celine Dion!*
