True story: while on a road trip in an RV we stopped in a lovely little town in Vermont for brunch, and they tried to serve us "table syrup" and we laughed, and asked if they would mind if we ran out to the RV and got our own maple syrup. Its so frustrating, are they or are they not? My brothers are only just in their 50s but they firmly identify with GenX! And everyone disagrees with where the "generations" start/end.

I think when you get to the point that you are forcing a restaurant to make food for you that you bring them your reasons for doing so are moot.

In this case, its the restaurants fault for indulging these two in the first place. Sure the customers were jerks, but they'd always been jerks, if you don't want to make custom dishes for jerks, don't. ;)
