People want all abusers to be one-dimensional scary monsters so that they don’t have to deal with the fact that literally anyone can be abusive.

Olympics: Simone Manuel shares historic night with some white bro-dude pothead.
So, you’re a stan.
Exactly. The famous, white male gets away with a hell of a lot if he chooses to do so. Women can be the worst about judging other women, too. She’s dealing with an abusive drunk person, but how dare she videotape him!! How dare it be released!!!
We don’t actually know if she is lying. Someone at the courthouse could have leaked it just as easily. But, what gets me is the clear contempt you have for her in your comments while saying nothing about Depp’s behavior, which is far worse.
How does her possibly lying seem so much worse than watching him do violent…
Yes, the most important thing is whether she leaked the video, not the pattern of behavior the video displays. I wish I was a famous, rich, and attractive (to many) man, imagine what I could get away with!!
I was just reading some comments about the Depp/Heard story on other sites and I’ve concluded that a video could emerge of Johnny Depp repeatedly punching Amber Heard in the face, and the internet would still declare her to be a gold digger who deserved it.
So fucking depressing.
One of the problems with widely acknowledging suicide is that suicide is actually somewhat contagious, so giving it news coverage and mentioning it in obituaries in the wrong way can actually lead to a spike in the suicide rate. While I agree with you that it would be good if we could discuss it more to combat mental…
So when you see hoof prints, you automatically think, “Zebra!” Yeah. Sure you do. But thanks for pointing out the obvious and attempting derailment. We never see that. Nope. Never.
The article doesn’t say, but I’m not going to be chuffed by anyone jumping to conclusions it was Mark. This (at surface value) has many of the “family annihilator” markers.
I wish you wouldn’t call a grown woman who is the mother of a prom-age kid a “girl.” I had to read this comment several times to figure out who got shot — the mother or the prom-goer.
There isn’t. In incidents like this, the murderer is overwhelmingly the man; but I agree we shouldn’t assume. If it was clearly him, police would have released that information.
A girl I went to school with had her mother killed in a murder-suicide by the stepfather when she was away at college. It’s gross that a lot of people on this thread are likely only a degree or few away from someone who died by angry man.
I’m not sure how to edit my comment since it won’t let me, but I’m not a “sociopath” and I don’t appreciate being called one (trust me, I have dated an actual one for years and know how they’re like). It was a gut reactionary post because it irritated me how all of you think that the dog being shot as well wasn’t…
I agree, particularly given that somebody called the cops after the mother missed a single lunch. I think that indicates a level of preexisting concern about the family.
Since this is a family annhilation, including even the dog (men kill pets far more often when they commit suicide; women tend to leave pets alive as they believe someone else can love them), my money’s on Mark. Previous domestic incidents are also mentioned, so even more money on Mark.
I’m very grateful for the ACA. Before it went into effect, I was turned down by every insurance company I tried due to pre-existing conditions and nearly went bankrupt from medical expenses last year. Now I have an affordable insurance plan with a reasonable deductible ($600) and low copays. Obama wanted to do better,…
These family murder-suicides are so horrifying, so upsetting. Although I have no stats I wouldn’t be surprised if the less-newsworthy singleton suicides are more common. I know several people whose stability in that regard troubles me, and yet it is so difficult to figure out what to do! You notice they are…
Mentioning the dog wouldn’t be so much of an improper prioritization as it could be used as maybe an insight into the mind of whichever of the adults committed this horrible tragedy.
A lot of people care more about animals than human beings. See: Cecil the Lion vs. the suffering of so many in Africa.
