I think the problem you are overlooking is that the ending was ALSO the stupid, immature fantasies of a 14 year old boy. So yeah, you’re right that that scene is needed for the context of the film. It’s just the film itself is a terrible, embarrassing idea. (Told very well, but still cringe inducing.)

I would add Rutherford Falls to this list. Maybe not as well known names but so many great performances on that show. The episode about the casino owner was especially thoughtful and moving (and funny).

I recently watched all of Black Monday. Usually, I just don’t vibe with the comedy of that friend-group of comedians. (I’m not a fan of Wet Hot American Summer for that reason.) But it really works here! Cheadle and Hall are hilarious but also just incredible actors. They bring depth to a show that can get real whacky…
