Statistically young men are in more danger of assault when they walk down the street than young women. For women the violence is often sexual for men it's just violence. Maybe the culture of violence as a whole is something we need to work against.

I agree that there could be reasons besides fear that she didn't show. But even if she had drug or alcohol issues - which coupled with homelessness would make it rather difficult to keep a court date - throwing her in jail shows how shit the system is.
