I just heard Steven Hill, most famous as Adam Schiff on the Law and Order mothership, passed a few days ago and was genuinely bewildered. I swear I heard he died years ago.

That movie is an absolute gem due to Wilder’s take on Willie Wonka. I recently read the book with my son and then we all watched the movie. I have to say, it’s one of those rare cases in which the movie is actually the better version of the story. The casting, the tone, the direction are great - but Wilder elevates

And she walks away as the various sounds from the accident are heard only in the background. Couldn’t find the clip, but thanks for reminding me.

I love Teri Garr’s version of the line too:

I LOVE this movie. So underrated. Gilda Radner is fantastic. That scene where Gene runs away from her and hides in his car and she comes and releases the emergency brake? I DIE.

It is cool that he is watching the two so close together. He can pick out the props and parts of the sets from the original that were used in Young Frankenstein.

What the fuck, 2016? You couldn't take someone shitty?

Alzheimer’s is a truly terrifying and cruel disease.

I was just listening to a 2005 interview with Gene on Fresh Air.

True story.

I feel you, but Gene and Gilda in Haunted Honeymoon or Gene and Madeline Kahn. Dude just seemed to bring his best to every part and to support and enhance his comedy genius peers.

We all gotta go but damn if this news wasn’t still a punch in the gut. I can’t help but feel that the world is a little less kind, a little less gentle today.

I first saw Willy Wonka as a child. I loved that movie so much. But it wasn’t until I watched it again as an adult that I realized the pure genius of Wilder’s Wonka, and the nuances get better every time I see it. His Wonka makes the movie, and gives it the depth that makes it worth rewatching.

“Where you headed, cowboy?” “Nowhere special.” “Nowhere special ... I’ve always wanted to go there.” I hope they’re both nowhere special — or somewhere very special — together!

If ever a purely comedic performance deserved a Best Actor Oscar it was Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein. In my opinon it is the single best comedy of all time and Wilder’s performance one of the all-time great comedic turns.

My wife told me that she ran into him in an art supply store in Connecticut when she was in college and chatted a bit. She said he was genuinely delightful to speak with.

His best work was playing off of Richard Pryor. They both brought deep nuance to their comedic characters, be it anger, fragility, or just fucking insanity.

Last night I watched Willy Wonka with my parents and brother over Facetime. It was one of the movies I watched a lot as a child and growing up, my family would often quote Willy Wonka’s lines to each other. “Stop. Don’t. Come back,” was one of our favorites. Without Gene Wilder, that movie probably would have faded

Well. Now I need a tissue. That statement from the obituary—damn.

After learning the news I watched Willy Wonka last night. I made it through almost the whole movie...right until Wonka tells Charlie his whole family can move into the chocolate factory. Then I lost it. R.I.P. Gene Wilder.
