Garrity v. New Jersey, 385 US 493 (1967) holds that the state can’t compel the cop to waive his/her 5th amendment privilege by threatening to fire the cop. And the state can’t fire the cop solely for taking his 5 (Gardner v. Broderick, 392 US 273 (1968). The fact that Dean was almost instantly fired speaks volumes

Sounds like there's a better chance for justice here than there was for Philando Castile. Even with the same silence from the NRA and gun nuts online hopefully Texas and a Texan jury can be shamed into admitting that rights under the law are also guaranteed to black people and that laws also apply to police officers.

It's in the housewarming basket with the muffins and bath bombs.

My favorite police story (of many) is when I had to call an Ambu for my buddy in rural NH to my moms house. We were having a punk rock show with like 20 bands in my basement, the neighbors all new, and my boy had just snapped his femur in half when someone threw a nasty spin kick. Nearest hospital is 45 minutes away,

Castle Doctrine Defense only works for White people.

you mean the part where they were concerned about the welfare of a fellow human being or the part where they were also concerned about their own welfare and didn’t want to go into a possibly dangerous situation(a robbery for instance or domestic violence scenario) they weren’t equipped to handle? Or how about the part

My theory: They were getting ready to hook Officer Chip up until the cop cam revealed that ol Quick Draw McGraw fucked up way beyond their means to make Ms. Jefferson look like a stone cold killing machine and get him off the hook.

It probably isn’t, and he probably didn’t see anything more than a figure moving. But that’s irrelevant. All of this is mentioned to start building his defense of fearing for his life. Since he hadn’t identified himself as police, even if she did shoot him she should’ve been clear under all of the Castle

Screw that. I’ve had to do a welfare check on my neighbor whose garage was open for 3 days. Police came, knocked on the front door first, walked around the house, THEN went into the house through the garage. Man apparently had a heart attack. They never drew their guns but they identified themselves when they walked

So does this town have “don’t come off the porch” rules like this? If so, lets stay the fuck out of Chester.

I can’t help but wonder if there’s some mass career suicide thing being triggered in people now that Dump’s openly begging Erdogan to not tell on him about that murdered journalist and saying hell yeah, bomb the Kurds and everything else that’s making the GOP finally go wait, what?

If there were any “good cops” they would be exhausted from arresting all of the bad cops.

Having lived in Chester for several years, none of this surprises me. At all. Of course they never did anything about the racist asshole who would speed his motorcycle up and down the street, back and forth, for all hours.

In a day full of crazy shiggidy, this is some full on crazy and unconstitutional shiggidy.

Don’t worry, you’ll get justice, as long as you’re a white tourist (even better if the killer cop also happens to be a black immigrant).

That’s a murder.

Seriously. Why would I want to visit a country where I could be murdered by a cop and there would be no recourse?

Something something about inalienable rights...

Well, there goes the US tourist trade...

When the federal government fails as ours has, we revert back to wild west rules. For a long list of reasons that are mostly bullshit and almost all correctable problems, we don’t have the money to fund federal oversight of shit like this like we should.
