In my area, one school district only requires a high school diploma for temps, so you can imagine what they are getting.
That’s my takeaway, as well.
The way I read it was kid doesn’t want to do the pledge, substitute asks why, kid explains, teacher pontificates, kid responds, sub escalates, kid escalates, school resource officer comes to class to grab the kid, kid doesn’t willingly go with, kid gets arrested. All in all, a ridiculous situation. The kid was in the…
From the sound of it, he wasn’t the disruption. It sounded like the teacher created and escalated a conflict with a child. The child’s reaction to that should not be grounds for an arrest, or even a suspension.
Seriously, how is this not considered ‘indoctrination’?
He was specifically arrested because he’s black. We can’t gloss over that part of the issue, I’ve seen white kids get away with the WORST shit but a black kid being half as bad and suddenly the issue becomes monumentally worse.
Of particular note, a public relations specialist for Polk County Public Schools told Yahoo Lifestyle that students aren’t even required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance
Anthems and national pledges are literal brainwashing tools. No one should take part in any of them.
I went to a predominantly Black school right outside of B’ham. All of the teachers were Black. The majority of them grew up in Bull Connor’s jurisdiction and saw what he did first hand. So when I made the choice during the 90s to never salute the flag again, it was a non-issue.

Republicans believe every challenge is a zero-sum game. The idea that in order for them to win, someone must lose. The idea of everyone winning or benefitting from the game is an anathema to their philosophy.
“Ah McCain, the biggest hypocrite there is.”
Ah McCain, the biggest hypocrite there is. She would attack Trump whenever he mocked her father, yet would quickly defend him every single time her father wasn’t involved.
Most republicans are exactly this right now. It isn’t about the country, or making things better for anyone in the long run, it’s about being angry that others are finally achieving some parity with them, and the mistaken belief that in order for them to succeed others (anyone not them) must fail, or be destroyed.…
You’re never too old to do what’s right.
Civil Disobedience. In its purest form. :)
