And people wonder why recidivism rates are high, and then tag that individual as a bad apple without considering the fact that maybe his first time in this nightmare left him way worse than he was when he went in for his nonviolent drug offense.

I am getting a lot of right-wing garbage people replying to this who can’t distinguish between “prisons” and “American prisons”. One thing I’ve learned from several years online and trying to have conversations with conservative wingnuts... Yay for “Dismiss”.

I abhor this eye for an eye BS we have for a penal system. Without rehabilitation there is no resolution, and it sounds like the guards are just as bad as the inmates.  

What you speak of exists in our screwed up system, but Cosby’s past that level. They’ve definitely thrown Cosby to the wolves, sending someone convicted of what he has been without taking into the fact he’s old as dirt. But honestly, screw him. Sadly that’s a part of their problem - hard to reflect and repent if you fear someone exploiting your weaknesses on taxpayer dime and treat you exactly how you treated those on the outside. Not saying it should all be cuddles and treats but education, counseling, not being used as cheap state labor/low bid contracting…

Seriously. People should serve their time without fear of being murdered in prison. Prison is where you pay your penance for your crimes against society. You should be (if at all possible) rehabilitated and returned to society a better person. How does this violent, dangerous prison accomplish that?

I mean, I’m still genuinely shocked that he was actually sentenced to serve prison time. If he were white, he would have just been put under “house arrest” in a schwifty retirement home.

Cosby has money though. I’m sure his people have the guard staff on payroll already.

He’s blind, elderly, and high profile. He’s never seeing general. He would be a constant disruption. 

I took it as the opposite. He isn’t exulting in how bad the prison system is, he is highlighting the facts, as ugly as they are.

I’m happy Cosby was found guilty, but American prisons are hellscapes that nobody deserves. And court costs? Yes, this particular rapist can afford that easily, but that’s just another bullshit cost that a) passes the costs of tax cuts on to the less fortunate, b) lets politicians show they are “tough on crime”, and…

Prisons are immoral in their current form in America. Our societal structure is plain wrong.

There’s no way they’re letting Cosby into gen-pop without a phalanx of armed guards. Letting random black and brown people get killed under your watch is one thing but the warden knows if Cosby gets shivved he can kiss his high paid consultancy gig for a Prison Corporation goodbye.

That was my first thought, too: drugs. I get being tired after a long shift, but being too tired to recognise your own living room or rather, too tired to recognise NOT-your-own living room? I mean, WTF?

Be prepared for: Officer not charged. Officer was assaulted. Victim had a record. Officer was justified. XXXX was found at the apartment. The shooting doesn’t count because the victim assailant was in his home minding his business Black. You know the drill.
