“no, no, no! Stop giving me your father’s passport. I need to see your passport.”

Dont get me started on the hassles Jesus had at TLV when he used his birth certificate as ID.

Gee I didn’t know abductors came with US passports these days.

Superstar!

Southwest released a statement and said they were sorry “if our interaction made this family uncomfortable.”

“I’m sorry miss but before I let you onto the plane I’m really going to need to hear you sing the first two verses of Stevie Wonder’s “Jungle Fever’”

So that’s what President Obama should have used?

Ah yes, the Facebook clause. 29 United States Code Section 438(a)(4)(F)(iii) - if you can’t find the child’s birth certificate, a facebook, instagram, snapchat will be deemed an acceptable substitute unless such facebook, instagram, or snapchat post has filters with dog ears that block more than 40% of the subject’s

I feel like the Asian community growth in Flushing WAS like gentrification at one point- it drove up rent and house values, and completely dominated the area, transforming it into what it is today. Many of the same criticisms levied at gentrification now were tossed around back in the 90s, alongside a healthy dose of

Oh yeah, and then dude/prince moved his family to Montgomery County because of #DCschoollottery.

Seriously, I’ve wondered this for years. No one, not one person can explain this to me. No matter how vocal residents are, it ain’t til whitey shows up that shit starts to change.

No shit, are you serious about a Alamo drafthouse. Holy fuck there are some in the East Coast!

I love Flushing I hope the Jewish/Chinatown/Koreatown areas hold out against the gentrifiers. You can get so many authentic ingredients at the markets and chicken feet are still sold a bit cheaper than other places.

Flushing is still holding the line as best it can, but every now and then I bump into gentrifiers who love to explain to me how I don’t know anything about to neighborhood I was born in.

Agree 100000%. That guy who started it bred an ugliness into community relations in the city. And as one of my friends put it, it’s pretty bold to move into a neighborhood as a gentrifier and then declare yourself the “prince” of it.

Yup I am watching this happen in Jamaica Queens right now. It has already happened in Brooklyn “hood” areas that you had to come to in daytime because there were no streetlights are now lovely, there are boutiques, all the street lights work, there are Organic juice bars.

Property taxes and sky high rents are really how they take over. Once the property taxes go up many Black folks who own homes are forced to sell. And when rents go up many Black renters and Black business owners are forced out.

What is even MORE ridiculous is these young white folks roll into DC, live there for a few years and then leave when the administration changes, or more likely they graduate from college. They are no more FROM DC than I am FROM Harlem, we live there but we aren’t from there.

The revitalizations don’t come until White people move in, then you get gardens, bus benches, more healthy food options etcetcetc. Why does a neighborhood only become better when we can’t afford to live there anymore? Why is White skin seen as more worthy of investment? Black people spend a lot of money in this
