I watched it with a lot of gaps. I cried a lot. I questioned why I would be putting myself through this, and you really said it beautifully.

A lot of travesties that target minorities and other oppressed groups often fly under the radar to the majority and most powerful, i.e. white people.
i screamed when i saw isis! i haven’t followed her career so i haven’t seen her since antm but i was happy to see her working.
Sad thing is that the “just” outcome is impossible, until we learn time travel; the just outcome is for this never to have happened. What we’re left with - our ostensible happy ending - is justice (aka humans’ next best thing to the just) being done in the direction of these young men.
I too watched the documentary and not sure if I want to watch this, regardless of how excellent it seems to be. Watching the documentary was so infuriating. There is footage where a journalist is discussing the timeline, and lays out in simple terms how it couldn’t be these kids based on eye witness accounts of where…
I was crying halfway through it and turned it off. I haven’t gotten to Korey’s episode yet. I could barely get through episodes 1 and 2. I may finish it this weekend if I can prepare myself.
I got the impression that the bulk of the script was compiled from first person accounts, specifically the Five, their families, and Nancy Ryan (Famke Jannsen.) Juror accounts would be harder to come by, not least because precious few of them are likely to willing to make themselves known and share the story about how…
this was an amazing series. i wonder why they left out jury deliberations because i was curious about what they were thinking and saying and how they got to the guilty verdict. it was still great without it but i was just curious.
I had to stop periodically. Took me almost a week to get through it. This cast is one of the best I’ve ever seen, which made it incredibly painful to watch.
Jharrel Jerome is easily my MVP of this series. He’s utterly compelling to watch and I’ll say again about Jharrel what I said about John Boyega in Attack The Block:
The last episode is probably the most intense.
this was beautifully written. i have yet to watch When They See Us. i watched the documentary from a few years ago on PBS- The Central Park Five. i’ve read about the case countless times, and have been infuriated every time. because of this, i had decided not to watch the series because i knew the anger and sadness…
I have two episodes left that I am watching tonight. The despair at this injustice, along with being hit with the reality of how often it has happened over the course of history - you’re right, this is a necessary series to watch and it’s incredibly fucking hard to watch.
She was lying then. She's lying now.
Hold the police and prosecutors ACCOUNTABLE for when they lie and break laws. Hold them accountable for every life destroyed by Matias Reyes after those five falsely accused kids were arrested and railroaded. Force the cops and prosecutors and judges to actually do their jobs by holding them accountable.
Sseriously this is so sad. This Woman needs a reality check. Karma is the only thing that should happen to her. U dont wanna make it about race but u have no other choice. A young white kid would of not been beat up and cohierst into that situation. And I'm not saying by any means they should of. But no black right…
If you’d asked Fairstein to write it she’d have an entirely different—but also false—account that puts her in the best light possible.
It’s worth mentioning that author Attika Locke raised awareness of Fairstein’s background with the ‘Central Park Five’ many months ago when she called into question the Mystery Writers of America’s decision to award Fairstein an award for excellence in fiction. The MWA decided to rescind the award once Locke stated…
Agree she played a starring role in the injustice, but she didn’t act alone. Cops will be cops, but Vera farmiga’s character brought it to trial even though she may have had her doubts and morgenthau let it all happen. She lectures at Columbia law and hes basically been sainted. Anyway, Im glad this and chernobyl…
may have taken a few minor artistic liberties with her depiction of Fairstein
