Nah. I hope mom learned not to promise anything before checking the price first after that unfortunate shopping experience, lol.

Yeah, I would have NEVER fallen for that shit as a kid. I poured lovingly over those catalogs, and all of my friends played with theirs together. Could always spot a bootleg Barbie, too. If you have a kid you can trick, though, more power to ya!
That’s kind of like everything in life. There are always going to be things I want but can’t afford. I don’t see what the big deal is, and it’s not outrageously priced in the grand scheme of things. It’s not like it’s a $1,000 doll.
My apologies. I thought they had American Girl dolls in Canada, though? They are a bit more expensive than say, a Barbie, but my 5th graders have xboxes. Value is very personal. How is this any different than that?
I had Samantha. I loved her. I also teach. The identity part doesn’t bother me at all, and didn’t as a kid. No one is forcing a kid to keep the doll’s identity as Samantha, Addy, Felicity, etc. I also played with Barbies and plenty of other dolls, too, so it’s not like I didn’t have an outlet to use my imagination and…
OMG *hugs*. They are expensive, but how awful for you as a kid! Sorry to your little sister, but your bitchiness was totally warranted.
You can get something insane like $800 for an original Pleasant Company Samantha doll (before they sold them to Mattel) on ebay. I refuse to sell her. REFUSE.
Samantha’s clothes are amazing. I had that coat and the fur muff for my doll, and remember dressing her in it and taking her to church on Christmas Eve like that, haha. I was pissed that I didn’t have a human sized muff.
It always annoyed me though that the neckline of her dresses were low and would show her fabric body. I know, I know. I was observant as a kid! Loved her clothes, though, and her bed. She was my second favorite.
*Claps* I teach 5th grade, and I had a VERY cherished American Girl doll as a kid. I would much rather my kid be playing with one of these than Call of Duty on their Xbox, or Instagraming pics on their iphone, which is what all of my 5th graders do.
I never thought about Toys for Tots, but what an excellent idea! I usually buy kids all the toys that I want to play with anyway, haha.
I was not on welfare, but my parents didn’t want to spoil the shit out of me, even though they agreed the dolls were well made and brought me tons of joy. For Christmas and my birthday, I would often ask for an outfit or accessories. If I wanted things outside of that, though, I had to save my money. I remember saving…
We all had two; one of the historical dolls and the “girl of today” (the one you can pick to look like you). Mine was GT20, Blonde hair and hazel eyes. Admittedly, I played with my historical doll a hell of a lot more. SAMANTHA FOR LIFE! MOLLY SUCKS! (You’re right, and that stayed true even when more dolls were…
You obviously don’t have a vagina, but American Girl dolls have been EXTREMELY popular for the last couple of decades. I’m 30, and I had one (as did all of my friends). Yes, they’re expensive. They are also (or at least, were) very well made. You also don’t have to buy the actual American Doll clothes. I used to buy…
Love both of those movies. My siblings and I quote them both a lot (you can probably guess our age ranges). I also love his face and abs. I know he doesn’t always play the best roles, but to be honest, I don’t think he’s a terrible actor. I actually liked The Proposal, too.
She’s actually facing the sad realization that she’s stuck, and quite frankly; she is. No college degree, both her parents died young, no way of really making money on her own (and my father controls pretty much all of it), very little family left. We live in a very expensive area of the country with a high cost of…
My mother did the SAME thing. As a result, my father’s go-to insult, besides the “You’re crazy and fucked in the head, that’s why you’re not married,” is “You almost ruined my marriage/things are great with me and mom when you’re not around/you were manipulative since birth.” My mother has actually seen the light…
Hello! Tell me, does it get any better? (I mean with yourself, not with the parent. Just started coming to terms with what has been going on in the last couple of years instead of blaming myself perpetually 24/7 and spending my life walking on eggshells!). Fuck. I just hijacked a Kanye thread to make it about myself.
Not to everyone...but to some people (myself included), yes. There are a lot of factors at play, though. I am not a fan of any kind of cheating, but cheating where there are emotions for the other party/it’s a continuous relationship/you cheat multiple times with the same person rank as worse than having a one night…
Believe it or not, Book Revue ALWAYS has signings. I live on Long Island not far from Huntington. Huntington Village is actually a nice place. I have not been to Book Revue in YEARS, though it is where everyone goes to sign their damn book.
I hate that I’m defending her right now.
