Beyonce has proven herself to be a great artist. Great art is univeral. It is important to understand the message the artist intends, it is important to learn from the work to deepen our awareness as humans. But also allow this work to speak to you - you personally. That is what great art does. No need to patronize.

I agree with you. One of my art history professors back in college used to say “a great artist has their fingertips on the pulse of humanity”. Great art is universal. This was great art, period. The comment was incredibly patronizing.
