I'm an empty nester that owns a minivan,  I get very defensive about them

“Avoid minivans” is terrible advice.

You want cavernous,  the minivan is the right answer.  Camping with kids means gear,  and minivans swallow up a prodigious amount of that.  

I drove my 83 Escort (bought new) for 11 years...it was a slug, broke down on me a couple of times, and the doorskins flapped in the breeze at about the 6 year point. I wouldn’t recommend it for a first car.

Henry was a mix, some genius good things, many horrible things.

Bloomberg did a very interesting article a couple of years ago about the high rate of workplace injuries and deaths at southern auto and auto supplier plants. I would think that a union, not necessarily the UAW, could use that to convince workers that the companies are not always looking out for them

My first high school was Kaiserslautern American HS in Germany, which Americans called K-town. On Fridays we had K-town High Pizza Pie...whoever of my friends got out of class first made a beeline for the cafeteria as they would run out quickly, and they’d order enough for all of us. I’m not sure I’d find that pizza…

This white suburban  (not overprogrammed, in fact just retired) woman just read the press release to see if they talked about towing. I see you can get Pro Backup Assist and it has pretty healthy towing capacity. I'd bet more Expedition buyers tow than go off road. 

Definitely agree with buying what you like. In the Before Times I’d bring leftover candy to the office so problem solved.

We were poor,  so our first two parent cars were well-used GM full size wagons. Got our first minivan in 1999 and currently on our 3rd one as empty nesters. We do enough road trips to have one in the fleet
