@emaline: I never said you should accept it but being aware of what the other side will argue is important. It allows you to be prepared with a counterpoint.
@laureltreedaphne: You do when this decision can be used as the basis for vast censorship.
@laureltreedaphne: I think the first step in discussing this is to acknowledge that our views are the minority and most see heavy persons as responsible for their status and less than human as a result. Thus they are deserving of fat shaming and mocking.
@emaline: From the view of the general public heavy persons are responsible for their weight and thus deserving of criticism/mocking. They are seen as less than by the general public. This is where the entire fat shaming comes from and the negotiations/rationalization that persons make when partaking in fat shaming.
But while it has every legal right to do so, Facebook's alleged reluctance to remove certain fat-related content appears to rise out of a desire to not fall down a slippery slope of what constitutes offensive speech and give the impression that discourse is being stifled in its broader community.

Bravo to the editors for not talking down to the writer, addressing her concerns, and not dismissing it.
@morninggloria: But who typed which paragraph?!!
@Mandevillain: I really do not see how talking down to us/Jezebel, dissmissing earnest concerns, and derailing the conversation is taking the high road.
"you are slightly more than twice as likely "
@shrinking_lover: Or being called "Fire crotch."
One night my friend Tina and I are at the bar with our friend Tim. We end up place at the corner of the bar with Tina and Tim on one side and I on the other. As we are drinking a man sits next to me. He asks if I'm with the "Degos" and points to my friends.
"Do you really have red hair?" said as he leans in and squints.
