I don’t recall any “whataboutism” in re Bush during Obama’s presidency. You mention the drone program; I do recall people being very loud in their statements of “I though Obama would be better and would stop this.”

Obama gave them all a pass with the “look forward not back.”  I wonder if he regrets that.  Eh, I’m not in the habit of second-guessing Obama.  He’s smart and thoughtful so I’m sure there were reasons for doing whatever he did.  That’s not to say that I in any way approve of his handling of most things, but I at least…

I’m genuinely trying to remember if “What about when Bush did it” was used as a defense for Bush-era things Obama still did. I guess there wasn’t a whole lot of right wing criticism of the drone program or military spending to argue with, but this seems to be a thing that only happens on the right.

Painting an argument you can’t deflect as coming from a biased rival is a conservative’s instinctive tactic even in the face of indisputable evidence to the contrary. They just get louder & try to drown it out then.

I can’t think of an American TV personality I’ve ever seen who is SO obviously and viscerally hated by his coworkers. As much as I’m sure everyone at Today must’ve hated Matt Lauer, it wasn’t quite so obvious.
