That’s very much a #metoo story and a painful illustration of how well-trained we are to normalize abuse.

Now playing

You’ll never hear this the same way, right?

Holy shit. This is amazing, and terribly sad-but thank you for sharing this.

Nuns have been mistreated - not just by individual priests or mothers superior, but by the church as an institution. Oftentimes, as so many stories that came out of the Irish work houses betrayed, nuns themselves became abusers.

Was raised the same way, was not super politically active when that age(14 was decades back as well), but indeed I had my parents views mostly and here in Alabama I did not even hear many other viewpoints as conservatism was and is so prevalent. Best thing is that people can change so maybe some will come about.

The fact that you believe that terrorists are going to attack your house tells me that you’re a complete fucking moron. I don’t give a shit that you’re 15. You’re a fucking moron.

From my experience with a few history teachers, the best way to make a student to realize something isn’t to tell them so much as it is to have them draw comparisons themselves and come to their own conclusion.

A good friend of mine has been having his students, in a relatively conservative area, study the Know Nothing

because the teacher flat out did not say this

As someone who, when he was 14 or so, was a genuine-article Reagan conservative, I’m not going to put too much weight on their current political affiliation. Right now, they probably live with Republican parents who have Republican friends who live tightly-knit in Republican neighborhoods. The whole point of suburbs,

and that the Constitution shall not be infringed. Where I live in North New Jersey, to get a license for a gun is really difficult.

Isn’t that a bitch though? Conservatives are both the victim and the hero of everything they choose to be.

“The Constitution protects us from government”

I didn’t think this needed to be explained but apparently, that’s not the case. The costume Starefire’s wearing in the trailer *isn’t* her Titans uniform. It’s a disguise for a very particular situation.

I’ve had many clients from East Africa with that gold + brown skin tone.  And, as you say, if you go back to George Perez’ original drawings of the character, she was never ‘white.’

Neither am I — I’m unfamiliar with Anna Diop’s work, so I have no opinion one way or the other. And Berlanti Productions has shown itself to have a knack for casting superhero roles superbly.

“Like a cheap whore” the slut shaming on a lot of these comments is really sad. Not just yours. Robin is shirtless in this trailer but he’s a man that’s fine. Woman wears a fur coat and tight fitting costume which shows less of her skin that is ever shown in the comments and she gets labled a whore. Fantastic.

On a TV shooting schedule unfortunately yes, it is hard to achieve.

The way George Perez drew Starfire’s features strikes me as entirely consistent with a black or biracial woman. And despite the odd tendency these days to call her skin color “orange,” the dialogue in New Teen Titans routinely described her skin as golden. It always struck me as sort of a golden-brown — and one not

> The racists might not like it, but you know what? Who cares about their misguided and wrongheaded feelings for a comic book character?

This one’s more confusing than usual.  Starfire has always been a woman of color. She’s orange you guys. There’s more than enough to rage about in the Titans trailer without getting hung up on Starfire’s casting.
