When I watch these old black and white movies, it just really surprises me how much the portrayal of women has actually become worse! Many of the women in the old movies seem actually really smart and self confident, not as women are portrayed nowadays..

It does although I believe in the US it is currently 30% female math PhDs..but that is only around recently, and I would guess it takes a couple of generations of somewhat more equality, until the conditions for excellence are met (a good supporting system for female mathematicians, early discovery of talents) and

the math and the feminist parts of me are very happily united tonight :) thanks jezebel for posting <3

:)

wtf ... I am iranian myself! what do you mean "the iranians"..? Iran has some of the best educated women in the world and a long feminist history, despite the current government. Did you know that 65% of the physics students in Iran are women? I am studying at one of the best unis in the world, and most iranian women

I have no idea how to contact the jezebel staff (sorry :) but just wanted to say that the first woman in history has won the fields medal (the so called nobel prize in mathematics). cheers!

Ah ok. Then it was simply a misunderstanding. I obviously agree that on average women and men are built differently, with implications for velocity and reach. So what I meant is that if you look mostly at the technique, women/girls can throw as well. I thought it was obvious what I was referring to in the context of

But now it seems you are trolling indeed...attack is the best defense? When people use "throwing like a girl" they obviously dont mean that women are just not throwing as far or as fast as men, but that girls can't throw at all, or are somehow incapable. No one would look at female olympic athletes in say javelin

fcking disgusting.

when I state that I think that there are no sensible reasons why girls could not throw as well as boys, despite what some parts of society want to believe since they want to stick to their sexist ideas - what about that is trolling?

Not sure. I am from Switzerland and Baseball is not so commonly played here, but thanks to a teacher from New Zealand we played it for some time..and it seemed to me that the most important feature to learn how to throw well and the like is being self confident - being self confident makes you simply relaxed and

Am I the only one who gets a bit depressed at the fact that there is any need for proof that girls can throw as well as anyone else?

I shouldn't have called it BS, sry for that, it was not directed at your opinion. What it was directed at though, is that what we deal in science with are models, and these are based on our pre-scientific biases and ideas. When it comes to the topic of the differences between gender, people tend to be very un-critical

Dude, "links to study"? I am a neuroscientist. I guess I know a bit more about the brain and cognitive performances than you do. People assume that neuroscience/cognitive sciences are neutral, yet sciences have always been based on pre-scientific biases and prejudices. There are many more studies than what I have

Wanting to try to dominante other people is rather a sign of dumbness imo

So, we should fight for equality because its good for business. Mhm.

Ok. I think the legal system should not be about revenge but about changing the society for the better/keeping it safe, but honestly, this verdict just makes me HAPPY.

Oh man how is this emancipated and not just objectification? I really don't understand the idea that every choice a woman makes is a GOOD choice. Many women are sexist. And before you start with "it's her personal decision" no it's not since she actually is communicating with a huge audience - it's not an action which
