It’s so true re: the quality of the SheaMoisture products.  There was also the huge marketing fail from a few years ago when SM was trying to expand its market away from being known for black hair care.  Little to none of the people in the ads were black.  They ignored their huge fanbase.

Right, that’s my takeaway as well. It’s not just that they are own my brand, Though I am selfish, I really don’t want to stop using Dove products, I genuinely like the results for the bucks. And you can pry my Knorr Caldo de Pollo from my cold, dead hands.

It’s not surprising - Unilever may be the parent business but all of brands under it are run pretty independently and have their own leadership. I am sure the quality of the leadership at the brand level varies widely.
