If you watch the segment, he makes fun of the content before concluding that it’s likely no one really watches it, and it’s ultimately a distraction from what should really concern us about the NRA. It’s not an outsized reaction, it’s “let’s have some topical fun here and then just move on from this irrelevant garbage”

That’s exactly the conclusion of the segment, if you watch it.

I think it’s a bit reductive to say that looking for the “point” of ambiguities / ideological contrasts etc within the show means you don’t understand the show. These things don’t happen in a vacuum, writers aren’t sitting helplessly by while the material writes itself, there are things they’re communicating through

But how much of that need to lie and believe he isn’t what he is rooted in internalized homophobia? If he could admit to himself and everyone else that he was gay and that it was okay, and find himself accepted, perhaps some of that would have been nipped in the bud. I know high-functioning narcissists who aren’t

He’s had his moments, like when he’s befriending Max Greenfield in the premiere and when he first meets Jeff. I think they’re hesitant to humanize him too much, which I understand but am slightly disappointed with after how well they did with OJ Simpson. He was a nuanced person who was shown to be both charming and

It’s startling how many of these true crime stories boil down to something like that - shame that becomes violence, some part of themselves they can only express in a twisted, violent way because if it were positive they would have to really come to terms with it. It’s not the only thing at play obviously, usually

Wasn’t he still filming The Soup for most of Community’s run? It’s a pretty low-key show, I’m sure he can fit other projects in around it

That was always the charm of The Soup though, so it’s likely intentional here

This is amazing and game-changing etc etc but mostly I can’t get past how fucking dope MBJ looks. The first time his clothes did the thing where they melt off into a skintight suit my jaw dropped straight off my face

They mention that he’s American literally in that same sentence

Good catch about what Andrew told Ronnie, he said he lost both the love of his life and his best friend.

Hmmm. I liked this episode a lot, it was beautifully put together. Also all three of those guys should only ever wear dorky 90s jeans, for some reason I was very into it.

Richard Ramirez’s life is the most fucked up story from start to finish. He was such a showboaty piece of shit during the trial that I don’t really want to give him any more notoriety (although at least he’s not here to see it), but his arrest-by-angry-mob is a darkly funny scene I’m dying to see. He was out of state

I think that’s out of respect to Selena and her family. All that woman wanted was to dominate Selena’s story and take a part of her identity, I’m glad that all memorial of Selena treats her as the irrelevant footnote she is.

The guy who plays Klaus on The Vampire Diaries/The Originals looks disturbingly like a young Dahmer to me as well

That’s fair, and I’m sure we’ll get some of that in future installments. It wouldn’t quite fit in this episode, but it will definitely be a part of the show moving forward

Yeah, not to discount the way that coming out can be a long, tumultuous journey for some people, but for others - especially in 2018 in California - it can also just be like “wow, duh, what a cool fun part of myself I had locked away until now”. As a bi woman I don’t really need Valencia to have tortured feelings

It always seemed to me that Andrew had some personal beef with Miglin, because the murder was just so much more brutal, intimate and premeditated than the others. But I guess for the show to speculate on that would inappropriate, blaming the victim in a way. It’s already slightly toeing the line that they’re outright

Yeah, no offense America but one of your states boasts the highest maternal mortality rate in the developed world. What’s that they say about people in glass shitholes throwing stones

I guess they just jumped the gun writing him off for the failed spinoff, and by the time it was clear that wouldn’t materialize Milo had already started broadening his horizons. It’s a shame, Jess is one of my favorite parts of the show
