It’s not cowardly, that’s the difference. Rubio did not do the smart thing. The smart thing would have been to not show up. It’s the smart thing because we wouldn’t be talking about him today if he hadn’t shown up. Rubio did his job and there is integrity in that. You may disagree with his politics, but he did his job.

That’s good advice for activist and emotional speaking. For professional speaking, I always suggest to my team:

He was dragged off because he went against flight crew instructions, AND local law enforcement instructions. Regardless
