“we may yet see the story of prehistoric Force users or a Rome-styled Empire show or perhaps a pre-industrialized Star War...”
Qimir vs Jedi in episode 5 and Kelnacca vs Sol/Torbin in episode 7 were gnarly.
I feel like Solo was so set upon by the “anti-woke” (or “anti-SJW” to use the parlance at the time) crowd that it overshadowed the actual movie, which was a lot better than it gers credit for. I’ve returned to it numerous times. It feels undeniably “Star Wars” while showing some pretty new and innovative settings and…
Solo is my favorite post RotJ Star Wars movie.
Solo is a good juxtaposition. Take away all the stupid callbacks (gold dice! how did Solo get his name!) and it’s a terrific adventure movie. It’s more Indiana Jones than the last 2 Indiana Jones flicks. The execution of the action scenes, from the American Graffiti-style car chase to Han Solo shooting Tobias Beckett…
I find this show inconsistent, but not overall bad. The highs are quite high, especially Episode 5. But the lows are quite dreary, particularly Episode 3 and 7 (the flashback episodes). I feel like the story and concept is solid, but the execution is uneven.
I did not read those flashes of reviews as real at all. They were Carmy’s anxiety over what the reviews would say, flipping from postive to negative until the first true review—the trib. review—came out.
I didn’t even find the Faks all that funny this year tbh, I found them overused. They got a few laughs, but they also felt like they were in an entirely different show as opposed to integrated with the rest of the cast like they were the first two seasons. And the writers definitely thought the “haunting” thing was…
Marcus just disappeared this season, and it drove me nuts. Computer wants to cut him loose mid-season, and it’s made clear to him in no uncertain terms that Marcus isn’t going anywhere... great! And then we basically don’t see or hear from Marcus for the rest of the season.
The scene with Chef David was *incredible*. How many of us have rehearsed in our own minds, a thousand times, what we could say if we got the chance to tell off our bully, accuser, person who made our life hell?
oh my fucking god, it was insufferable. the big collage, then all the “real chefs” telling their stories... which i get was to be inspirational, but it felt so incredibly pretensious and smug. and *boring*
This season, while enjoyable, was a step down from the previous two because its clear they were stalling to pad the episode count. There’s story content for one season here but they’ve stretched it out over season 3 and the upcoming season 4. I’m sure it was worth it financially, but creatively, it caused some issues.
Thomas Keller was amazing in his scene. It must unsettle actors to see someone not even trained can just come in and own.
I generally enjoyed this season, though definitely not nearly as much as the first two. However... that scene of everyone standing around gazing longingly at the “Every Second Counts” sign, each nodding their heads wistfully.
Haven’t seen much of that, but I tend to reflexively tune “shippers” out, because they generally range from annoying to flat-out insane.
So a small nitpick. Why did Chef Terry go party with people she barely knew after her legendary restaurant closed? Hell even Carmy was not there and that was her connection to that group. Richie was there for barely a week and he made that much of an impression with her?
(Given his reputation as a total asshole, I’m surprised that the unerringly kind Chef Terry invited David to be a part of this sacred evening. Talk about a vibe killer.)
I've literally never seen that complaint, so I do wonder where you hang out and with whom...
For all the legit complaints you could have about this season, it feels like a lot of fans are still just completely hung up about how Carmy and Syd still aren’t fucking, which is the only thing they care about. It’s really just sad now.
It’s Darth Bortles, not any of the other names.
