Yes, but that’s part of the point... it CAN bankrupt you, unlike student loans, which can’t be discharged in bankruptcy. Sure, you get decade or so of a shitty credit rating, but that’s the risk you run - a decade of shitty credit versus multiple decades of debt you can’t pay off.

How, exactly, can you rationalize paying off someone’s student loans because they made the exceptionally stupid decision to go to a liberal arts school and major in something like Gender or Race Studies, and then had to become a secretary?
