I remember the days when ESPN came on the air. Good times. Didn’t have to sit through an entire general news program to get your sports fix. Only what you wanted, nothing you didn’t. They talked about the game and game strategy and showed the highlights.

Such fucking drama everywhere. Like there’s not a hundred other channels and a million fucking cesspool websites to get your hot political takes? Why on Earth would any reasonable professional there (Jimmy, head of programming, segment producer, ad salesperson, etc.) want to push any issue that has a most likely outcome - or even a real possibility -of reducing viewers based on a non-sports issue? Gizmodo family comments want progressive politics. That is their target market and the audience that brings the $$ in. Conservatives generally won’t get out of the greys. ESPN isn’t really doing anything different. They just have a different target audience.

If something is worth doing its worth doing the right. ESPN is really really bad with handling political and societal so I would rather them ditch the topic then having attempt the semi coherent discourse they’ve peddled in the past. 

I totally agree that sports and politics intersect way more than the avg person realizes and I’m fine with espn covering them. You’re right, why should the network listen to their audience? It should show its viewers that yes, we will tell you what to think and what we think is important for you to know and consider, ratings be damned.

I think there is a bit of a difference between hearing an anthem after someone gets a Gold Medal  and listening to Curt Shilling babble about Obama.

Personally, I think we need as many talking heads as possible babbling about politics all day just in case one of the geniuses over at CNN or FOX has to stop for two seconds and take a dump.
