Yeah but sexual harassment/assault/exploitation is in some ways like a mass shooting—some people like to imagine they would do something decisive and heroic if they were in that situation, but no one has a clue until it happens. Then, 99 percent of the time, they freeze. I speak from (blessedly mild) personal

I’m not particularly interested in any gender being “in charge.” I just think that “men won’t listen to women because women are too MEAN,” is particularly true.

Ok, you seem on the level (read: not a troll), so I’ll engage for a bit.

Your overuse of pronouns makes your comment very hard to follow but what I am gleaning from this comment is that you want very much to sound impressive.

Men have been told their opinions are paramount for millennia. It hasn’t made them listen to women.

I’m—you guessed it—Frank Stallone.

“Needs more cats.”

Because a lot of his behavior could just be a shy, regular guy who hasn’t dated in a while and doesn’t know how to act, or he could be a real creep—there’s two possible explanations for every one of his actions.

You think those dudes are making well thought out points?

I think a big part of what makes the story work as well as it does IS the ambiguity regarding the guy. Because a lot of his behavior could just be a shy, regular guy who hasn’t dated in a while and doesn’t know how to act, or he could be a real creep—there’s two possible explanations for every one of his actions. Now having finished reading the article, I will say that even though I have always and still think Mario Batali is a supercilious jerk, as sexual harassment apologies go this one is pretty well done. No victim blaming. No “that’s not indicative of who I am as a person.” No multiple mentions of how much he is admired.

That “are you still watching?” message that pops up when you’ve been streaming for hours pops up as soon as you hit play on The Ranch.

I think that’s her point.

I like the way he emphasizes “FAT LADY”, like he’s calling Thanos a fat lady. Oh man, there’s no infinity stone that’ll heal that sick burn.

Eh, you’re probably right but I don’t think calling Rachel Dolezal an anti-black slur is the same as calling Elizabeth Warren Pocahontas. Now, maybe if he called Rachel Dolezal something like “Rosa Parks,” then maybe OH I SEE IT NOW YEAH THAT’S PRETTY RACIST

If he called Rachel Dolezal any kind of anti-black racial slur as a joke in front of a room full of black veterans being honored, it would not be okay just because the target warrants criticism. A slur is a slur, and using “Pocahontas” as shorthand for a Native American woman is a slur.

“Way to go, Einstein,” you are slurring Einstein, and I guess Jewish people?

It’s fun seeing white conservatives tell people that Indians are not offended by this, or the Redskins name and how liberals should not presume to speak for Indians while speaking for Indians.

I really wish there were more women writers on the AV Club. Not only does the reviewer fail to note the misleading marketing that led a lot of people to believe this would be a female-centric show, not only does he barely register the gratuitous use of sexual violence, nor is there any mention of the controversy

I’ve only seen the first episode, but that was exactly my reaction: Rarely have I seen a show with such a fascinating premise that immediately starts pulling against that premise with all its might. I would be happy to watch a western about Jeff Daniels and Sam Waterston facing off on opposite sides of the law, but
