I thought "Heart Shaped Box" very neatly avoided Stephen King's tic of writing believable characters and snappy dialogue. It was terrible and clunky and felt like someone's first NaNoWriMo attempt, and I could neither finish it nor believe it was published without knowledge of the author's familial relations.
