‘Lean In’ Sheryl Sandberg has shown herself to be less a classic social justice feminist and more a Big Business Republican who has merely projected the business right’s ethos of personal take-everything greed through a female lens. Apparently ‘leaning in’ includes associating with Donald Trump and trying to dig up

He’s 41 years old. Why is he acting alternately like he’s a 12 year old or a 72 year old?

The best thing about December - arguably the only good thing about December - are all of the ‘best of’ and ‘worst of’ articles. I genuinely enjoy them. I grew up on Siskel & Ebert’s best/worst films of the year programs.

Since his name apparently is no longer ‘Kayne West’ that means we should never be subjected to seeing the name ‘Kayne West’ in a headline ever again.

I’m reminded of the live-action ‘Beauty And the Beast’ which touted Disney’s ‘first openly gay’ character. Which basically meant no more than the guy being a little bit twee in a couple scenes.

Another review pointed out the film is set in Paris in the 20s.
PARIS IN THE FREAKIN’ 20s!
Where is Henry Miller and Anais Nin? Where is Ernest Hemingway and Josephine Baker and Gertrude Stein and Cole Porter and F. Scott Fitzgerald? Where is Man Ray and Isadora Duncan and Igor Stravinsky and Coco Chanel? Or at least

Wasn’t Carey sued for sexually inappropriate behavior towards an employee not so long ago? Sorry Stella Stolper, I guess the #MeToo movement doesn’t count when the abuser is a rich woman.

In this day and age, when I look at these doofuses all I can think is ‘Trump voter”, which ruins all the fun.

I’ve found that watching aging actors reprising past roles from 34 years ago to be a depressing experience rather than the warm-hearted nostalgia its intended to be. It only serves as a reminder that we’re all doomed to age and die.

Ye or Yi or whatever his name is now has entered the Lindsay Lohan phase of his career. Or maybe the Brittany Spears shaved head phase. Or the Charlie Sheen ‘WINNING!’ phase. Or any one of a dozen other celebrities whose egos, addictions and mental afflictions outpaced their talents.

A note to the editor. Whenever the term ‘millenial’ appears please substitute the phrase ‘adults under 40' instead.

I’m of the age that my ‘pop culture’ Stan Lee isn’t the aging movie franchise Stan Lee. My Stan Lee was the name on the comic books I devoured as a child back in the 1960s. The inseparable names of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were the unseen ‘pop icons’ of the age, as familiar a pairing as Simon and Garfunkle.

If I have to bet, I’ll bet that Valencia’s experience in NYC will mirror Josh’s. She’ll struggle, eventually see West Covina as the hometown she loves and return. And appreciate Josh a little more for having gone through the same experience. That’s my bet.

I wonder if this is going to be one of those seasons where every other episode is good. The podcast ‘Crazy Ex-Girlfans’ gave the previous episode an alltime low score of 4 out of 10. I expect this much-superior episode will merit a 9.

Sherlock’, which was neither a period piece nor costume drama, sported that anachronistic long wool coat that billowed like a cape as he moved... and the series finale was utter garbage. Not saying the two were connected.

The BBC culture review of this film compared it to other Warner Bros films, and it wasn’t meant as a compliment. Most notably “...It’s a bleak catalogue of death, destruction and despair, with a colour palette ranging all the way from grey to black.” The reviewer said its end was closer to a horror film than a children

I had quipped a long time ago that British [series] seem to primarily be about the *period costumes*. As long as you’ve got a well tailored between-the-wars suit coat you don’t need to bother with a script or character development or logical plotting.

Now playing

When I read the headline one song immeditaely sprang to mind. Sondia’s “Adult” from the OST for the Korean series “My Mister”. The best series I ever saw, the best song match to a series I ever heard. This link had a lyrics translation running along the bottom.

So was ‘Signal’, but the CW wasn’t going to admit that they were copying a big recent Asian TV series.

The phrase ‘science fiction’ has become meaningless. Now its nothing but fantasy using machine Macguffins instead of fairy Macguffins. No real difference between space aliens and unicorns.
