To me, it’s that sloppy jangly action that makes the M4 feel so odd to me. I’m so used to traditional recoil that the M4 is a different experience. Given that the makers of the current Flash show are clearly huge fans of the original, I've been half-expecting them to do a "Flash of Two Worlds" crossover between the two. It's kind of a natural.
