@Brian: That's the front suspension. The back looks like the same old works-well-enough-and-is-dead-simple-to-boot live axle.

@spitfire74: Retarded for retarded's sake is... How do I put this?... Retarded.
@skitter: The AMC Eagle is (according to the EPA) a truck. I'll bet it's way more practical than this turd both on and off road.
@eastaboga: Remember when they hotted up an AMC Eagle wagon and went hooning across the country? Good times...
I sincerely hope that this is real and will actually happen. I'm taking a watch and see approach at this point, but I really hope that I can once again call Jalopnik home and comment with something approaching my former frequency.
@Novaload: University of Maine always includes the campus in the name so it's UMO (Orono) or UMPG Portland-Gorham), never just U of M. Just thought you should know...
@theart: You can do it a buttload cheaper by replacing the 258's head with a 4.0 head (which breathes much better), and scavenging the EFI parts from the donor of the head. Clifford Performance (6=8) is a wonderful source of hop-up parts for these engines, too.
Gee, thanks Murilee. Now I'ma hafta get one for my Eagle.
Great one, G! If I had the cash and the rest of the week off, I'd be halfway there by now (Although I must confess, I'd try the old "wave $2K under the nose of the seller" trick, because I can get nearly as nice examples for as little as $1K. Some moron at the dream cruise had an $8K price tag on this one...
@Buster Brew: Engine swap choices are limited for this car because of the front differential mounting to the block. Your best bet would probably be to build a stroker 4.0 by boring a 258 block and using the larger 4.0 pistons.
@cgarison: A small pair of vice-grips dedicated to the purpose of replacing the shattered hood release handle is the solution I've seen most often.
@LS1RX7owen: Um, the exhaust is supposed to be routed over the axle so that they never come in contact under circumstances that don't alter the bodywork. DUH. #1985toyotacorolla
@Mike the Dog is sitting by the door with a pair of cow slippers, and a very sad face.: On second thought, I'm voting "crack pipe". I just realized that the axle is pushing on the exhaust in this pic. I wonder what else the guy half-assed? #1985toyotacorolla
It looks like a solid "nice price", but I'm having issues with the exhaust routing. The seller claims it's a "JDM cat-back", but I don't know any exhaust installers who would do a kludge job like this. #1985toyotacorolla
@Van Sarockin, rogue trebuchet: Congrats on the COTD, BTW. It was well-earned. #cotd
@I *heart* Stiggie: I'll miss engineerd as much as I do Deartháir, POLAЯ and any number of people who have sort of quietly gone away without so much as a "so long". I realize that nothing lasts unchanged forever and that change is part of growth, but I wish my friends would still hang out here. I know that with…
@MushyHeirloom: "Rare, quirky, tailfins, good condition, Nice Price." If those are your qualifications, I've got a car for you at the bargain price of $4,000 (the stubby fins are only obvious in a rear-view, which I don't have). #fordcapri
@Jon: Awesome! I didn't notice the shiny new settings button. It lets you order threads by newest or oldest, too! #cotomersevis
@mytdawg: No doubt. What a letdown. #cotomersevis
@blueplate: I found that the portable version of FireFox installed on a thumb drive worked perfectly on my work computer when an installed-on-the-machine version was denied network access. Never heard a peep about it from the IT types, either. #cotomersevis
