. On paper, it would seem like supply is exceeding demand, though, of course, far more people are likely in the market than actually pull the trigger. In broader, more realistic terms, domestic production of EVs — meaning those that qualify for federal tax rebates — is beginning to satisfy consumer interest,

It’s not mentioned in the article (as is typical here), but it’s only banning the sale of new gasoline powered cars; and, IIRC, it doesn’t include ALL gasoline powered vehicles (something about allowances for commercial use, RVs, yada, yada...)

I have driven pre 964s and I find them to be wonderful driver’s cars. No they are not fast or I suppose comfortable by modern standards, but they are responsive, the light front end makes steering response like nothing most people will ever drive, and the view down the hood with the fender headlight bulges placed

996 turbos also

Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for the Park Ave Ultra, which also has the Supercharged 3.8L V6.

I feel like car companies are designing cars with the thought that they will NEVER break down.

Everything about this system sounds stupid and dangerous.

Lexus Employee 1 : Oh no, the focused-group turned our vehicle into a bland appliance box. What do we do?

I’ll say what everyone else is thinking. It needs a manual transmission with a more powerful engine for anyone who is remotely a car enthusiast to want one. But it’s fine for people who want an appliance that will do what most people need. They’ll sell plenty of them.

Image of the look on the faces of the previous owners after they bought this thing and realized what they had just done.

Jaguar F Type. $35,000 probably won’t get you a manual (unless it has big miles on it) but will get you an early v8 example

Lotus Evora 2+2. Bump the budget up from $35k to $40k and buy this one: https://www.bournes.com/used/Lotus/2013-Lotus-Evora-3b9c85500a0e09a836efb17e0e7b261c.htm

It is not a Porsche. It is like the Toybura in the sense the heart of this Lotus is a Toyota 2GR V6. And there is aftermarket support for Lotus vehicles

I agree and am in the same boat. This is all incredibly subjective - but I feel like this car was something that they built because they wanted to. A labor of love for the people involved. Yes they want to make money off of them - but creating the best possible driver’s car was just as important. You see that, for

Longevity and ease of service to not mix well with 12k RPM. You also have to understand that Cosworth did this on a shoestring budget compared with what AMG spent on the One. AMG probably spent more on CAE than Cosworth spent on the whole project.

lol kindly tell me where you get the impression that Gordon Murray’s cars are “horribly unreliable”

I think his true genius is that he knows how a car should feel, outside of just how to engineer it. All the touch points, the exhaust sound, the steering feel, etc. He just understands intangibles in a way that others don’t.  It kind of helps to have a blank check I suppose.

They kept the camera on his face because it’s NSFW if panned further down.

I’m the farthest thing from a supercar fan, but I’ve never been as blown away by a car as I am by this one, and I just continue to be reminded of what an utter genius Gordon Murray is. How he and his team have been able to engineer something in 2023 that looks this good, has this much performance, weighs as little as

the Kia k900.
