I think Hinch is there to develop the players, not make in-game decision. That is why Porter was fired. He was trying to game manage. Hinch gets paid for what he does 3 hours before the game, not the 3 hours during, where he just avoids screwing up as much as possible. He is an ideal manager for a bunch of 25 and

I don’t break out the advanced stats unless I know I am talking to someone who understands them. But, you are using xFIP wrong. Its a great way to rationalize a bad luck run (i.e. 1 year), but over the duration of an entire career or a 3-4 year run, FIP is more accurate, since the sample size is enough that you want

This further makes that point since Silfverberg wasn’t injured, yet he got 41 games.

Good catch. Not sure if either of those can be considered successes, especially since neither have coached the same team for a second year...

I do think that is a big part, but I do think “don’t screw the pooch” is about 90% of what a manager does. I think a good manager only adds 1-2 wins a year, its just that a bad manager costs you 5-6, so the good guy is better 6-8 better than a bad guy.... Matheny isn’t +2, but he looks to not be a -5 either.

Maybe making this point on a play that did not result in injury isn’t the best approach....

Yeah but at least most of them are foreigners....

The reason its not consistent is there is no downside to extending the ball at the goal line then. You don’t see a runner extending the ball to get an extra two yards as being tackled in the open field because he can fumble it and lose it.

Bullshit. This is the stupidest comment I have ever seen....

Here is a question though. Did you know it was against the rules for a defender to do this? If so, when.?... Its always against the rules for a player on offense to do it, since it helps retain possession, but only in very, very rare cases (in either endzone) is it a penalty for the defense.

Yeah. The “smart” move is to make a full body lunge/chest it out. I mean if you just ran into it full speed with your chest there is no way it doesn’t go flying out of bounds....

Why this rule exists:

Wait, what? He started 12 games in 2014. He went 3-4 with a 5.03 ERA in those starts.... He only went 6 or more innings in 5 of them, got torched in 5 of them....

Of course he wasn’t elected in 2012 when they could have easily put him in (if they wanted to wait until he was retired and all) so a 100% vote by the 16 person “Expansion Era Committee” who decided it was perfectly fine to reward two drunk drivers and a wife beater that all benefited greatly on players using PEDs

God was a fan of Bobby Layne’s....

I knew it was a rule, but I couldn’t remember if it was a safety or if Detroit got the ball back, since 99 times out of a hundred a bat in the endzone is almost always a punter on a bad snap (that would be a safety)...

I don’t watch the Giants that closely but can you explain? I don’t think much of Petit and as I look at his stats I still don’t see anything special...

Let’s get his career winning % above .503 before we cast the plaque...

Baseball is the only sport that hires people to be the head coach/manager with no prior experience coaching or player development at any level (even Miami’s Interim head coach was a TE coach for a couple of years):

It’s all this PC crap. I mean I remember the good ‘ole days where you just bought some Roofies and went to a frat party...
