That was luck (that they played the 3rd best team in the conf to end the year). Either way, both wins were good, its just that prior to those games OSU was ahead of Baylor in the committees eyes (since they were 5 and Baylor was 6). Both moved up 1 spot with TCU getting dinged for finished with an awful team.

Live and learn. I am sure they were looking for a way to encourage trades, since there is always that owner with 3 top 10 WR yet he never makes a trade unless you give him your starting QB, RB and WR for his 3rd TE.

Because it was 2nd and 6 with :42 seconds left. Its an insane catch but if he doesn't catch it they get a try on 3rd down, and if that fails they kick a 25 yd field goal. This isn't like a buzzer beater, its more like hitting a home run to lead off the top of the 9th in a tie game. It will be forever remembered,

No. The reason it exists is that the defense can't block you while you are out of bounds. So if it was legal to run down the sideline out of bounds (either as a receiver or as a gunner on a kick) and then just jump inbounds to catch the ball/down the punt it would give an unfair advantage to the receiver/gunner.

No, they would have gone with a fumble and obvious recovery rule and it would have been the Ducks ball at the 20 if the recover was in the endzone or 2 if it was picked up there.

You are missing something. No rule against that. Only time that type of rule comes into play is first person is on a forward pass or downing a kick with the logic being that since you can't be blocked when out of bounds it would be a great way to get free run downfield. That rule does not apply to a fumble as long

It means he got both feet back in bounds before touching the ball. The only times going out and coming back in invalidate you from touching the ball are when you are the first to touch a forward pass or the first to try and down a kick.

And I couldn't be prouder of that fact.

You want to count them all otherwise you could commit unlimited numbers of deadball fouls with no extra penalty (although if it got out of hand ejections and possible forfeits would happen).

Well, he was killing complete strangers.... so its not like one of those serial killers who kills his girlfriend...

If you mean 30 years ago when you compared Whitey's Cardinals to Earl's Orioles sure. However that ended when I was in grade school. That is why of the 18 players to hit 55 or more HR in a season 9 were in the NL, 9 in the AL. Of the top 10 SB seasons since 1900 6 are NL, 5 are AL (tie for 10th). In the past 20

Actually the problem is when not pressured, most NFL QBs are better than 60%

That's just what the team said. Once there is an arrest we will evaluate, but right now there is nothing more than a allegation. I actually agree with this. Until and when a 3rd party (the police and DA) make a determination if a possible crime occurred I can't see benching him. However the second after that

About 3 years ago (blindside blocking any player) I think. Regardless any hit on a QB that is drifting over is illegal for about 10-12 years now. Just the same as hitting the punter and other such. On change of possessions they are very protected and they have to strike a "distinctive defensive posture". I played

Not true. Rule 12, Section 2, Article 9 actually states that he can't be contacted even if there was a change of possession unless he takes a distinctive defensive posture. Here is the exact wording:

There are 3 rules that make this a penalty:

That has been the rule for quarterbacks for at least a decade. I know they changed the rule to include kicker and punters the same protection in 2011 (see link) for change of possession plays http://static.nfl.com/static/content…, so we are talking 3+ years for kickers/punters and probably closer to 10+ for QBs

You can't hit the quarterback or kicker on a change of possession play unless he is actively involved in making a tackle, and drifting over is not actively involved. That rule has existed for 15+ years. You can't also blindside hit any player like that for at least 2 or 3 years now

I remember how Ditka's quarterback can't remember anything anymore and how is safety killed himself because of his brain injuries. Good old days indeed
