First week of April if you want the best chance of seeing cherry blossoms in Tokyo or Kyoto. The weather is great then as well.

It’s tourist friendly in the sense that it’s not too difficult to climb and there’s some huts/places to eat/rest and use the toilet along the way. You’ll still be spending 5+ hours of hiking up the mountain though and 3+ hours getting down again.
