Simple logic says you don’t count on an 86 year old to be around for a multi-year commitment. Even his son Adam is close to bumping up against retirement age.

Considering that Mulan is universally considered an unconscionable dumpster fire, it doesn’t give me much hope for ‘Turner and CGI dog’.
In the end Tom Hanks bicycle-kicks an arrow into the bad guy’s heart.
A reminder, ‘Extreme Makeover’ started out as a plastic surgery show, the premise was chopping up ‘ugly’ women to make them ‘beautiful’. Yes, it was just as grotesque as it sounds.
Why has AV Club not touched ‘Mulan’, or did I miss the review?
I don’t mean to be morbid but I would’ve sworn Richard Schiff has passed away a couple years ago. I’m very much happy to see I was mistaken. It make me wonder, though, who the heck I was thinking of that I confused him with Schiff.
TV show economics. Typically, after 6 years you have to renegotiate EVERYONE’S contract. And usually everyone wants a raise. If its a cash cow like 2 1/2 Men you renegotiate. If it isn’t you write a closing story arc. Or you can write an obdurate actor out of the series and keep going.
I’m reminded of a line from the old series ‘Ally McBeal’. The rich boss confides to his friend “I’m afraid she’s only dating me for my money.” The friend responds “Isn’t that why you worked so hard to make your money, so women like that would be willing to sleep with you?” (or words to that effect)
Back in my younger days there were series well known for being tailored for the ‘retirement-age’ demographic. Murder She Wrote was one of those series. Now that I’ve reached retirement age, myself, I can’t say that I’m any more drawn to that genre than I ever was.
I’ve been listening to more and more Korean performers lately. There’s some really good stuff out there. Never got into the boy groups or girl groups, though. I think I’m outside of their target demographic. The artist IU just celebrated the 12th anniversary of her premiere on stage and tripled the viewership ratings…
TV viewership is becoming increasingly fragmented. I couldn’t guess where you’d locate half the nominated series. I assume behind one paywall or another. Even if you’ve got a favorite its difficult to root for ‘Best’ anything since you’ve seen none of the competition.
Oh, about Mulan, I just watch a review that had this gem of a line: “The most soulless, lifeless husk of a movie since Cats”
There was a pretty good Korean drama in 2017 named ‘Queen of Mystery’ about a crime solving housewife named ‘Seol-ok’. Her grumpy cop sidekick was named ‘Wan-seung’(approximations of Sherlock and Watson).
This was a less annoying article than I expected, which is meant as high praise.
I’m reminded of that phrase ‘Eat The Rich’. Paris Hilton isn’t just Paris Hilton, she’s a card-carrying member of the .01% elite, heir to the Hilton hotels empire. She is the face of inherited wealth in America.
Recently I saw a video of a foreign music star fooling around on the phone. Making believe she was a new worker, she called her production company’s VP and asked him what the ‘purpose’ of the company was. Eventually he replied the company’s primary mission was the welfare and happiness of their employees. Slightly…
Maybe they’ll get into his backstory. A Palestinian refugee Socialist who preached tolerance and condemned the worship of money.
The second episode of that 2019 Korean anthology Netflix film ‘Persona’, the segment called ‘the Collector’, may have been a Gumhio (spelled with a G instead of a K) story, though it wasn’t stated explicitly. About the cold-hearted woman who collects the beating hearts of her lovers in mason jars.
I recall a review for the original film referred to it as ‘the Jesus Chainsaw Massacres’.
So many young women who thought they finally made it big and can quit their food service job, only to go back to their food service job a few months later.
