In cycling colored sidewalls and tires have been around on and off for years. Some last great, some just fall apart while their all black counterparts seemed to not have issues. If they last and grip the same, why the heck not?

In the JDM Cressidas were performance sedans. My coworker has some of this vintage. Quite a few are here on Austin.
True, I guess we should say volume produced, but even then it’s murky:
The SVX was only offered with an automatic transmission because Subaru couldn’t make a manual that could handle the torque of the engine. Not sure if there is one that fits and can hold up yet.
Though some debate it, the Triumph TR3 was the first production car with disc brakes, and it had electric windshield wipers when most cars were still vacuum operated. Other features a bit ahead of the curve were spare tires that were accessible without opening the trunk, a common jacking point to lift an entire side…
Bugeye Sprite. Ac Ace Bristol and Shelby Cobra. Triumph TR2-3b and TR4. Daimler SP250. Jag D and E Types, XK120-150. The list goes on. Here’s a link to just a few in a small album I have.
Honestly, the people who own homes won’t care if they have to absorb the loss of LRP tax revenue to the town. Check propert values there. The town has no fear of losing revenue either.
It’s staying open for the foreseeable future. As in, the next several years.
Having basically grown up at Lime Rock, and since my dad began his racing there (was at the very first race when the track opened), I understand why the town opposes Sunday racing. It used to be no racing in the rain, as well. As tot he no Sunday thing, after a Petit Le Mans 12 hr races, the town wanted to shut the…
The guy who made it a golf course was going to keep it as a track, but the rich people won out. Oddly enough, the golf course is horrible for the aquifer recharging.
I may make an appearance.
People love to joke about my British cars and their supposed reliability issues. I tell them “drive an E Type 7 times a year, have 7 breakdowns. Drive it at least 3 times a week, have 7 breakdowns or less in the same time period.” Buying a stored car is ok for the body, nut as you said, all mechanical and rubber…
I think the 911 is a great car, though I don’t want one. Had a 73 Targa, and was happy to sell it for almost 10k in 1997. Thought I made a killing, hahaha. But rebuilding the earlier air cooled engines, and other things that could go wrong, yikes! As to the E Type comparison, no, there aren’t many good ones. Many look…
Any number of Jag sedans. Ride like a dream, plenty of space, great driving cars, handle well. Plus, enough cash left over to stay in really nice places.
I think I make people’s day when they see me in my Spitfire in Austin. In August... For me, I get super happy when I see any older car, a supposed showpiece, out on the road like any other car. Ferrari Daytona coupe is my favorite to see, or any pre E Type Jag. To me those cars are so valuable I love their owners…
I also heard that 1000 Renaults were destroyed. Hard to tell from factory fresh, I’m sure...
There was one in my apartment complex last year. Until the right front hub carrier/trunnion/kingpin/knuckle broke. I have pics of it by the gate code reader kneeling don on the front corner like it’s waiting to be knighted.
Been common forever unfortunately. In the Tour de Trump going up Devil’s Kitchen press motos got in the way and blocked the road. On an avg 19% climb, and the motos were all over the road at the 22% section. Or when the motos can’t descend as fast as us, and in trying to keep up fade their brakes, and then become…
I need to write up road tests of all the cars I’ve driven someday. Too bad I didn’t realize twenty years ago that the days of them being truly raced and driven hard were about to end. I’d have gotten more pictures.
By the time I got my 911 I had driven C and D Types on the track, and also a number of 356s, where I learned to wiggle them through turns.
