But they have replaced SBCs as the ubiquitous swap-in engine, meaning they appear in Miatas, hot rods, pro-tourers, ‘32 Ford clones, Cobra clones, 914s, 240SX drifters, etc. I fully expect to see an LS BMW E9 any minute. 

Well then all joking aside, what exactly is your issue with an LS swap? And I mean your issue with the concept of LS swaps, NOT the fact that some people do them poorly; that argument can be used to hate on literally anything.
