Last two cars were GTIs, which I loved. But they were leased. This last time, I decided to buy, and then hold onto it until the market for BEVs or PHEVs produced what I wanted next. When I looked at the price of the GTI vs. a GLI, I was quite surprised to find that, for the same trim level, with the same engine,

Yes, AIUI many bulb-type thermometers use alcohol these days, at least for normal human temperatures. And that mercury-on-aluminum thing is no joke:

A thermometer is a device that measures temperature. There are many kinds of thermometers, including both mercury and thermistor.

WTF, really? A “thermometer” is a device that measures temperature. “Thermo”, “meter”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermometer  Are you really saying that, if it doesn’t have mercury in it, it’s not a “thermometer”? Of course there are different kinds of thermometers, including mercury but also many others,

80 grand? Hm, the family isn’t named Chow, huh?

Um, what’s with the picture of a cruiser from Edgartown, MA? I’m pretty sure Sag Harbor is in New York.

Woke up, got out of bed, dragged a truck across my head...

Yeah, this thread is really coming to a head.

Was it a Cybertruck with the trunk lid open? Slice!

This can’t be fixed with a jump start, as the car will just fail again as soon as the battery is out of juice.” Can’t be fixed, but it might get you down the road to a mechanic’s shop. (Might.)

Essentially, a sail is like a wing. The reason this works is related to why an aircraft moving forward through the air generates lift at (nearly) right angles to the direction of motion.

Maybe more of a cousin than a sibling, but... I think the Jetta GLI should get more sunshine next to the GTI. In the Mk7 version at least, it’s got the same engine, transmission, suspension, brakes (from the Golf R!), mostly the same interior, etc. while being several thousand dollars cheaper at the same trim level,

But it certainly wasn’t faster-and-furiouser.

Came here for this.

Southwest decided to do a test of its planes’ terrain warning systems...?

Freddie Mercury, Thomas Jane from Boogie Nights, and some other dude.

Looks like a few ciggie burns in there, too.

the milquetoast L48 with 195 horsepower and the brawnier L82 offering 225 horses” LOL, yeah that’s brawny alright. That’s even worse than the Fox-body Five-Oh making 225 miniature ponies from 302 cubes.

Re #2... I thought it basically was a Germanmobile? Or at least uses a lot of old Mercedes parts?
