If you haven’t been to a Whataburger in Texas recently, then I think I can confirm they’re suffering from the corporate buyout. It’s the stuff that always affects national franchises - industrial-grade buns, skimpy toppings, cut corners. It might also be the post-COVID economy, but their service has also been garbage.

Texans are proud of Whataburger, or they were until the family sold to a Chicago-based restaurant conglomerate a few years back and started franchising across the country.

Getting sexually aroused because people using the n-word is a pretty serious psychiatric condition. It’s not a kink. Seek help.

When they say “at the earliest” I take the pessimistic yet pragmatic view that they mean it.

All Amazon is saying now is late 2024 at the earliest. Season 2 hasn’t even started production yet, so that seems likely. It too them 2 years to shoot and produce the first season, firing up production after COVID had died down.

I mean, it makes sense these series that are far more cinematic than your average TV show will take longer to produce. The Mandalorian not coming back until next Feb or March, Rings of Power not coming back until 2025 (!), but TV series aren’t movies. The narrative pace is such that, especially with cliffhangers,

Repeating this for the folks in the back. Eating fish is not only NOT good for the environment, it is actively terrible for it.

Even pushing my GTI on public roads can get dicey, whcih is why I pick and choose my moments. There are some nice hard turns, some funky decreasing radius, off camber corners, and a few that I can jab full throttle with almost full lock.

This is precisely why I have a mkVII GTI with no plans to replace it.

I actually take that as a compliment!

The steering is more numb than the prior generation at commuting speeds, only waking up once you move from Exceeding the Posted Limit to Reckless Endangerment. The car is most at home on track.

I remember sitting in on an autonomous vehicle session at SXSW 10 years ago, and the discussion was more about how to “convoy” vehicles on high speed highways and interstates. Get everyone locked into the same speed, at safe following distances, with routes established such that the vehicles were positioned to exit

Can confirm.

I didn’t find it patronizing at all. As a man, I thought it was a needed commentary on the issues modern human society faces, yet how we refuse to accept the possibility women can be at least competent, if not better leaders than men (a la Sanna Marin and Jacinda Arden).

Man, it’s the BEST chicken, but it’s also amazing on mild fish. I normally hate tilapia except fried in tacos, but marinated in piri piri and blasted over coals in a fish basket is amazing. Get some char on it, and serve over some garlicky toasty bread? Oh man.

My wife insists on absolutely no red meat in our family meals, so we use Beyond meat for hamburger night. Last night my youngest finally said she didn’t want any more fake burgers, that she either wanted real burgers or no burgers. My oldest chimed in that while she’ll eat them she doesn’t like them. This comes, of

Wasn’t the situation she’d been ducking the process server, and because she was scheduled to be on stage at the con, that was a guaranteed means of the court serving her?

McClard’s BBQ in Hot Springs, AR has been in operation since 1928.

This was a beautiful metaphor. Gilroy sad on Maron’s WTF that he’s using literally every writer’s tool to convey the complexity of the people, the relationships, and the politics, but this was a Shakespearian-level metaphor, calling back to a statement in the very first episode.

Gah! That’s where I recognize her from - The Waif! I do hope Vel returns in the next 3-episode arc.
