The Archer is likely more than enough to dispatch the opponent they’ll be facing. If they bring in the more expensive Adder, I would assume its to engage a target that is a little more advanced or a fair bit further out (range) than the current expectation.

Yeah... we don’t need to counter systems like the Russian SAMs... Its ok to send our pilots to their death against defense systems that nearly no 4th gen fighter can defeat.

Common misconception, we have chosen to use Russia for transit, its cheaper. The “Know-How” and funding could be restored at any time to put a program together if there was a reason to do so.
