yeah, all the Unity alphas I have played so far were pretty stable.

check the unity3d website for conditions for using it for free.

they have full FPS games you can download from the asset store and mess around with in Unity.

that's like 1/2 hour with the unity editor....sorry, 35 minutes, 5 minutes to find and download the horse asset.
