We know Widowmaker had a husband. We now know Torbjorn has a lady friend and a lot of kids. We know Ana had some kind of husband or something she had Pharah with. We know Reinhart is kinda sweet on Ana. We know Tracer has a girlfriend. People are only complaining about a character being “sexualized” with one of

As long as people like you keep insisting that stuff like this is arbitrary, we have to keep doing it.

In what way does Tracer’s sexuality have anything to do with “Sexualizing the character”? If it were any other character with their significant others, would this be considered sexual?

A couple of problems with this:
1. No one would say this was forced if they just revealed that she was straight.
2. Inclusivity for it’s own sake is fine. They have a diverse cast of characters already, and part of the reason is to have characters people can relate to. Not everyone needs that, but some people do and

The notion of “Diversity for diversity’s sake” is code for “Characters should only be straight white males unless not being a straight white male is their defining trait, and even then we only need one or two”, so careful with that statement. Nothing’s wrong with more representation of everyone in media.

Yeah, funny story about that: every one of those “token” groups people get all pissy about are actually real groups consisting of thousands, sometimes millions, of actual human beings. The game didn’t make the ethnicity up.

I am against “diversity for diversity’s sake.”

There is no story to Overwatch, at least not one that you could glean just by playing the game. So, literally every single detail in any of these comics that’s not about the character running and shooting is as equally irrelevant as Tracer’s sexuality. And I haven’t read all of them, but I’m guessing that at least a

representation matters. it’s that simple. it helps normalize gay people in the public eye, and gives gay girls playing the game someone to identify with. it’s actually really important.

It was a bit hokey them saying “there’s one, just wait”, however you do understand there are 9 other backstory comics that don’t really touch sexuality. Here we get Tracer shopping for her SO, stopping to thwart a crime, getting denied twice, and getting a gift. Oh, and her SO just happens to be a girl.

Okay, this is going to be a touch pedantic, but it’s something that’s irked me about this topic for a long while: Being in a lesbian relationship does not make someone a lesbian, just as being in a heterosexual relationship does not make one heterosexual. Bisexuality and Pansexuality are things that exist.
