Dead Man is forgettable? Stranger Than Paradise? Paterson? Really? You seem to be describing a different filmmaker.

No I love Ghost Dog. I was trying to come up with a bad movie he has directed and drew a blank. So...it was a joke.
I think Ghost Dog is up there at the top of his movies. Dead Man, Down by Law and that one. Maybe Broken Flowers too, which is somehow really rewatchable.
Maybe he just wanted to have some fun with his friends. These days, you've got to take your fun where you can. I'm happy to go see it and relax.
Judging by the comments I’m in the minority on this, but between Bill Murray, Jarmusch, and the rest of the cast, there isn’t anything you could say to make me not go see this.
I thought Ghost Dog was hilarious. It’s hard to top Forrest Whitaker with a Samurai sword. And if nothing else Sturgill Simpson is awesome and worthy of attention. But that would be lost on this AV Club reviewer bereft of jocularity and acumen.
Is it totally dumb? Yes. Does Jarmusch do anything new to the zombie comedy genre? Nope. Is it funny as hell? Yes, in my opinion at least. My only complaint : [spoiler] Jarmusch completely threw the kids from the juvie hall away. Deleted scene I guess?
I’m hoping this review will still remind me of Ebert’s far off the mark review of Wet Hot American Summer after I see it.
I am a fan of even the worst Jarmusch films (Ghost Dog?) and this...sounds like a Jarmusch film. Your mileage may vary I guess.
It never ceases to amaze me when the comments here just accept a film’s review blindly. Like, no shit the guy who didn’t like it three weeks ago still doesn’t like it. Maybe I’ll agree, maybe I won’t, but I’ll still watch this with an open mind.
Mr Dowd’s views on this movie were made most clear in his review of it at Cannes and then again and again when mentioning it again and again in his reviews for other movies at Cannes. Might have been interesting to have the full review done by someone else.
It was dark compared to the Adam West Batman, which was really the only live-action point of comparison for a lot of of people at the time.
Most of the things you mention are either from 1992 or later
the late ‘80s, along with the early ‘90s, is a burning polyethylane fire of toxic garbage.
Man this would’ve been cool— I loved Batman 66 and Wonder Woman 77. And I’ve liked neither cinematic Two-Face we’ve had so far: TLJ was just a warmed over Jack/Joker and Aaron Eckhart just moped around boring everyone to death. I always wished Billy Dee Williams got a crack at it— in my head at least, he had the right…
FWIW, Batman Returns is my favorite Batman movie. I understand that the Nolan movies (and Batman ‘89) are objectively better — but I just love the take Burton had on Gotham City. It was perfect, to me. The exact way I’d imagined it as a kid reading comic books. For nothing else, I appreciate his take on the series for…
This looks great! :D
Damn. This is one of those things I wish I never learned about. This would have been awesome.
I want to see both this and a Nic Cage Superman comic :(.
Or they could use Burton’s designs without making the characters 100% likenesses of the actors, maybe retaining some non-actionable attributes (like Bruce Wayne’s slight build out of costume). The version 2.0 of TAS Catwoman is clearly modelled after the Batman Returns version, but she doesn’t look at all like…
