I disagree. Sure, you can’t expect to get rich. But I recorded a total of 6 episodes of my podcast before I realized I didn’t have time for it, and currently they’ve averaged about 10,000 downloads per episode (according to Blubrry). And I don’t think I was particularly special.
If you are going into it for money, that’s right. If you are going into it for other reasons, don’t worry about becoming Chris Hardiwck, you'll find an audience if you are any good at it. My motto is that of MST3K: Not everyone will like it, but the right people will.
Yeah, you certainly shouldn’t expect to find fame or fortune podcasting, but there are lots of other reasons to do it. The first being that you enjoy it.
Here’s the next important part: never share your show. People hate being “sold” to, even when what you’re selling is free and just intended to entertain people. At best, you can sort of weave the fact that you have a show into a comment, but never outright suggest to people that they might enjoy your podcast, because…
