Not sure if you listen to contemporary country music, but it’s basically 90s riff rock. So while it’s true that Beyonce doesn’t sound like country, that has more to do with the lack of distorted electric guitars, maudlin bridges, and biiiiiog loooong choooooooruses.

Digital cameras and digital editing - especially for horror movies, the cost of film and editing tended to keep things under 87 minutes. I won’t say that makes for a better movie, but I will say that horror movies longer than 100 minutes give me pause.

To be fair, Nolan is mostly celebrated for making long movies, so it’s a bit of a paradox.

It’s kind of funny because you’re saying it’s not 1999, but you’re describing a version of fame that sounds just like the 1940s. “His radio show and vaudeville routine are so popular that he got to host a TV variety show!”

Ironically, I’m really enjoying TR2 with the original graphics and tank controls. It didn’t feel right otherwise. To their credit, there are still some nice improvements, like indicators when you are standing over an item. And being able to play it on a modern controller without having to futz around.

Isn’t it typical? You bring so much joy to millions of people. And then you horrifically murder two people, and that’s all anyone can talk about.

I was gonna say, there was a really popular football player/actor in the 80s and 90s, until he murdered his wife. Maybe it's better that people don't remember him for other stuff.

And if you include gymnasts, you reach the apex of filmmaking... Gymkata!

You’re forgetting the greatest actor of his generation. Fred Dryer.

To some extent, playing a 25-30 year old game means taking it for what it is. The original Tomb Raider games are finicky and slow, which is a 90s design strategy that feels dated. Ironically, we can say in 2024 that it reflects the limitations of the era, but at the time it reflected the possibilities of the era. I'm

I started playing it a few years ago and was surprised that people "use a giant translucent arrow to aim the cannons" such a fun mechanic. Are there also people who loved the hidden pistol in Assassin's Creed 2?

Yep. Every console has to go from “next gen” to “current gen” to “last gen,” which makes people’s fixation on increasing graphical fidelity silly. It will always end up looking “last gen," by definition. But it also makes sense to focus on graphical fidelity, since people don't necessarily want major changes in

You can’t walk into one of these movies expecting it to be a standalone story. That’s the whole marketing hook for the series. It’s why watching the second Spider-Man movie required me to Google the fourth Avengers movie.

Yeah, especially if he had the idea that the hero and villain should spend the last episode flying around throwing light at each other. Innovative stuff.

The problem is that you can only know how self contained a movie is by seeing the other movies that it doesn’t reference. It doesn't help that the movies are indifferently plotted and way too long.

Here’s the thing: I was eleven, and it already seemed too convoluted to give a shit

Yeah, dude's a pretty big moron, BUT he will respond enthusiastically to every post. It can be fun.

I love how the 90s Spider-Man cartoon looked at 90s Spider-Man comics and thought “why not dedicate a dozen episodes to the clone saga?”

Yeah, the people shambling into Disney movies about superheroes are definitely not a “zombie crowd” that lacks critical thinking.

Trolling. Even if it's sincere, anyone who won't accept a substitute for peanuts is trolling their entire life.
