I do! Not-leaving-the-house is the best time to experiment with a new look, or test a new mascara to see if it smudges or makes your contacts feel like they’re coated with scuzz and fucks up your vision (like the new Guerlain I just got yesterday, which is getting returned today, booooo), or to try on ALL YOUR

Was that the Portland one? Where she said that she looked too East Coast or something?

you have to let your moisturizer sit for a while before putting your make up on. I usually blowdry my hair while my moisturizer sits. I let my primer sit too but not for as long.

Megan Koester is a writer and comedian (obviously)

Yes I want to know this too, and not in a snarky way. I have dry skin on my cheeks and I always wear moisturizer, so am I supposed to stand there and rub it in over the course of a few minutes?!? Honest question!

I’m not the OP but I usually let each layer sink in 5-10 minutes, until it’s no longer sticky or wet to the touch.

Yeah, when I “do” my makeup (not like, put on CC cream, some bronzer/blush and mascara/eyeliner for work, which takes like 15 min tops), it can easily take me an hour. An hour and a half with doing my hair. I leave 2 hours if I am planning on attempting false lashes because I will inevitably fuck it up and have to fix

I am Indian and I have several foundation colors based on the season. Summer is at least 2 shades darker than Winter

I feel the same way. It takes me 30 minutes to do mine, & I usually skip foundation. If I did a full face of makeup, it could easily take a little over an hour. 2-3 hours seems excessive, but I'm not a professional makeup artist, so.

Okay, so nosy question: have you seen that Sephora just started carrying Black Up? It’s supposed to be a makeup brand specifically tailored for POC.

Also it’s pretty clear that this is “occasion” makeup. Whether that occasion is taking a selfie that’s going to get 10,000 likes or going to a black tie gala, no one who’s not paying someone else to do their makeup daily is doing this every single day. An hour and a half is not an absurd amount of time to spend on

I’m just more generally confused about the tone of the article. I thought Millihelen was supposed to be a fun place to talk about makeup and beauty - not make fun of people who “set the women’s movement back a solid century” because they like glitter.

Is this an article making fun of people who like makeup, on a blog for people who like makeup? I’m confused.

Ok I’m gonna go back up and read the full article but I just have to say -

Instagram is full of nightmare inducing eyebrows, but to each their own, I suppose.

As someone who did not previously understand the importance of bronzer, I urge the author to get thee to a Sephora and have a sales associate apply a Tarte bronzer to thine face to change thine’s lyfe.

See, I hate people trying to help me when I shop. I love Sephora and Ulta, but I get annoyed by someone asking to help me every 3 seconds in Sephora. LEAVE ME ALONE! But some people want/need help!

This is like, PRECISELY my feelings. Ulta’s rewards are boss (esp love that you can use points for a discount instead of having to “spend” them on samples of shit you don’t want), and I’ve gotten amaaaaazing GWPs for Algenist and Dermalogica stuff there.

Ulta has a VASTLY superior rewards program to Sephora, as they do a points system that actually gives you credit towards a purchase instead of Sephora’s dinky samples. I’ve actually been able to cash out Sephora points for Mega Rewards in the past, and I still think Ulta has a better system. If you buy a decent amount

Whatever, I get all my makeup at walgreens the day after Halloween when all the witch/zombie makeup goes on sale. I make it work.
