Yes, I thought the amount was odd too. So as a normal person, these kinds of things pop in your head. As a cop/investigator, you cannot rule it out simply because it is a reach.

I have not been following this story, but, even if the cops thought this was a hoax, shouldn’t they have investigated FIRST before actually saying that these people are lying? You know, just in case they were absolutely wrong in their assumption.
